richmond.com - #2:news Report: Richt to interview for the Virginia job

nbc news Could Georgia's loss be Virginia's gain? Mark Richt who was fired by Georgia on Sunday will interview for the head coach position at Virginia,

according to ESPN's Mark Schlabach.

There has been no shortage of interest in Richt since his dismissal which should come as no surprise. During his 15 seasons in Athens, Richt went 145-51 including a 9-3 season in 2015. He has already interviewed for the head coaching job at his alma mater, Miami.

A candidate like Richt may seem like a reach for a school like Virginia, but he interviewed for the UVa job before in 2000 and there was believed to be mutual interest before he accepted the job at Georgia. Considering he was just run out of town because of the absurdly high expectations of the Bulldog fan base, a move to the ACC Coastal and the comparatively low expectations of Charlottesville may come as a welcome relief.

Richt may be the biggest name currently available among college coaching candidates and will have plenty of opportunities to choose from. The question is whether athletics director Craig Littlepage can put together a sales pitch enticing enough to convince Richt to turn down those other jobs to come to Virginia.
